Students' Perceptions of Blended Learning Method in The English Education Department
The involvement of technology in the world of education nowadays is considered to be able to improve the quality of education. This is a qualitative study that aims to know how the involvement of technology in the blended learning method was implemented at the undergraduate level and how students' perceptions were related to the implementation of the method. This research used a narrative inquiry approach that focused on one of the English skill classes ( listening). This research involved 3 participants from an extensive listening class in the English education department at one of the universities in Pekalongan, Central Jawa. Data were collected by an interview where the researcher used an interview guide with pre-set questions as a source of data. The results of this study indicated that in the implementation of the blended learning method, the teacher of an extensive listening class used the enriched virtual model from Horn and Staker (2012). The Enriched Virtual Model is a blended learning model that makes online learning as the backbone of learning. This model is typically used to enhance student learning experiences through group projects or teacher-led instruction. Implementation of the blended learning method in the extensive listening class received a positive response from students. They argued that the blended learning method helped students learn independently, changed the teacher-centered paradigm to become student-centered, it could help them to improve their learning achievement, and also was easily accessible anywhere. In addition to several advantages, students also mentioned that the implementation of the blended learning method had weaknesses in terms of feedback which had an impact on decreasing student motivation and a lack of student confidence in their English listening skill.
