The Therapists Notebook for Children and Adolescents: Homework, Handouts, and Activities for Use in Psychotherapy
In order for therapists to work successfully with children, they must first be comfortable with
the world of childhood. To facilitate this, it is important to assess one’s own attitude about play
and playfulness. The following questions can be used as a springboard to begin this exploration.
Responses can be used to generate discussions in supervision, and reflected upon whenever a clinician experiences difficulties touching his or her own playfulness, spontaneity, or creativity in
child-related therapy. Reflecting on your own childhood, answer these questions. This can also be
adapted for use with parents.
